-Statistical introduction--
Most Americans (80%) consider themselves to be Christians, but are less likely today to attend church and read the Bible regularly than they were 20 years ago.
Among adults aged 27-47:
- About 65% believe in an almighty God.
- About 45% believe that Satan is a real being.
- About 35% believe the Bible to be totally true and accurate in all its teachings.
--Current trends--
Today in the USA, it's popular to claim the title of "Christian" and embrace a personal faith in Christ. Many adults are willing to identify themselves as born-again Christians, and to testify to their belief in Jesus. They admit that Jesus is their Savior, and he forgives their sins. They expect to enter Heaven, and they believe that their frequent church attendance enables their entrance.
- protestants
Of all Americans, about 51% qualify to be protestants. About 35% of them feel a responsibility to evangelize the public. And 56% of them believe the Bible to be totally true and accurate.
- born agains
Of all Americans, 40% qualify to be "born again". Of them, about 60% read or study the Bible during an average week apart from in church. And 65% of them believe the Bible to be totally true and accurate.
--Adversity from peers and community--
The youth are likelier than their parents were to hold absolute views on doctrine and religion, but putting their faith into action will require courage and fortitude to persist in their course and not deviate despite peer pressure and opposition. They need to resist the mass hypnosis of group-think, and instead choose to follow the timeless truths of the Bible. The broad thinking, permissive attitude, and convention of universal inclusion should not preside in a Christian society. God does not approve of this mentality, and he did not ordain the popular philosophy invented by mankind as a substitute for himself. But if an eager truth seeker begins the journey toward the Lord, little time will elapse until he faces an intense struggle and fights to keep the faith and hold firm against the onslaught of stares, insults, and cruel treatment bound to impede his progress. Preserving his soul and enduring to the end should be his ultimate goal.
--Adversity from world system--
The faith of marginal, nominal Christians is being weakened and diluted by impious programming implemented by devious masters of deception. The stream of brainwashing is corroding the bonds and dismantling the framework of traditional, Biblical faith.
These gullible souls are taught in learning centers to accept modern philosophies and adapt to changing times. They are molded to conform with the cast, and merged with a group identity acceptable to their controllers. But in order to stay chaste and keep their faith strong and resolute, they ought to challenge the distorted conceptions of morality in U.S. popular culture. They should not believe the teachings and suggestions that they see from actors on TV, lest they emulate and practice them. The weakest and most vulnerable among them are the young, growing, curious minds that sit before the screens and absorb all the sights and sounds that the evil programmers dispense to them.
--Questions to consider--
Is the faith of new converts to Christ strong and resilient enough to resist the torrent of pollution flowing out from sources in the media and entertainment industry? How can they stand against the persuasive programming with its tweaked and twisted logical fallacies? A calloused attitude of rebellion is forming in our nation's youth, as they plummet headlong into an age of relativism, diversity, and tolerance, guided by the evil elite taskmasters pushing them farther down the chute.
Do the masses of Christians really follow Christ and obey his teachings? Will they continue their sinning lifestyles despite having been graciously forgiven? Will they neglect so great a salvation? How can staunch Christians among our debauched culture turn the tide and reverse the slide into destruction and perdition? Is it an exercise in futility, akin to beating the wind? Perhaps our mutual destiny as a fallen culture is to become fewer, poorer, sicker, and sadder year after year.
