There's one good russian poet, Sergey Esenin. If you want I can send you some of his poems. And if you like it I can help you to understand it. I have some free time every day. Just let me know if you are interesting
It depends on your Russian level, your knowledge of the language. If you're into science fiction you can try reading the book "Голова профессора Доуэля" or another engaging book of the same author, called "Остров погибших кораблей". In my opinion, the books of Russian classics such as Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Gogol, etc are for advanced learners and can be too difficult to comprehend. So for the first books for reading in the language, I would recommend something less complicated.
